Wiesenbek pond
Recreation and discovery at the Wiesenbek pond in the UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Wiesenbek pond in Bad Lauterberg in the Harz Mountains is a historic artificial pond that was built in 1715 to supply water to the copper mine. It later supplied the Königshütte smelting works in Lauterberg. The pond has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Harz Water Management” since 2010 and is one of the most important testimonies to the history of mining in the Harz Mountains.
Today, the Wiesenbeker Teich is a popular place for recreation and leisure activities. The Wiesenbeker Teich camping park is located on the southern shore and offers a playground and access to the water. The “Dombrowsky’s Baude” restaurant, which offers regional dishes, is also located by the pond. It is open to both camping guests and day visitors. The Wiesenbek pond is a wonderful place to go stand-up paddleboarding. You can either bring your own SUP or hire one on site. Banana boats and water skiing are also available on request.
Visitors to Bad Lauterberg will find a peaceful place with interesting insights into the Harz water management and a wide range of options for an excursion with family or friends.
