Fishing in Bad Lauterberg
in the Harz Mountains

Find your fishing luck with us in the Harz Mountains

The area around Bad Lauterberg is a true paradise for all fishing fans. In the unique mix of flowing and still waters, both fly fishermen and sport fishermen will find their favorite fishing grounds.

The Bad Lauterberg im Harz e.V. fishing club manages three fishing waters. The Wiesenbek pond, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is idyllically nestled in a forest in the immediate vicinity of the town. The Oder river with its reservoir is certainly an exceptional fishing ground. While spinning, bottom and float fishing is permitted on the reservoir, you are only allowed to cast your fly rod on the Oder River.

Fishing is only permitted on all three waters with a guest card. You can obtain this on presentation of your valid fishing license at our tourist information office, for example. Tip: Find out about the local conditions and regulations for using the waters in good time before your trip, then nothing will stand in the way of your fishing luck in the Harz Mountains.

Wiesenbek pond

The Wiesenbek pond lies in the middle of an idyllic forest. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Harz Water Management” and offers many leisure activities on and in the water in addition to fishing via the local campsite. Plan your fishing trip in the early morning or late evening hours to fully enjoy the tranquillity on the shore.

The best fishing spots: There is open access to the water in the dyke area of the western bank. The wooded area on the eastern bank offers probably the quietest fishing spots on the Wiesenbek pond.

Oder reservoir

The Oderstausee near Bad Lauterberg is a popular fishing area for peaceful and predatory fish anglers. With a maximum area of 136 ha and a maximum depth of 50 m, the Oderstausee is the largest fishing water around Bad Lauterberg. The typical reservoir structure ensures a great variety of fish.

The best fishing spots: The deep water in the area of the dam is the ideal place for fishing for zander and pike. The inlet zones of smaller rivers and streams are particularly popular with trout and other salmonids. In the steep bank areas, you should try your luck with trout using spinning bait.

The pre-dam (equalizing basin below the Oder dam) is reserved exclusively for club members.

Oder River

The Oder River from the raft weir at the Panoramic Hotel to the Förstersteg is a fly fishing spot. However, you are only allowed to elegantly lay your fly and streamer on the water between sunrise and sunset, as neither night fishing nor boat fishing is permitted on the Oder River.

The best fishing spots: For the most part, the banks in the fishing section are not accessible by car. To be able to cast your fly fishing rod well, we recommend open bank areas such as the Alte Bahntrasse. River sections with slower currents are suitable for beginners. These calm areas are ideal for trout fishing.

To fish in the waters and Bad Lauterberg, you need a fishing license for guests. You must present a fishing license or proof that you have successfully passed the sport fishing examination. All guest fishing permits and tips on the waters are available from us at the Tourist Information Office in the Haus des Gastes at Ritscherstaße 4.
