The Water-Treading Rally

Immerse yourself in the world of Sebastian Kneipp – head and toe. In Bad Lauterberg, you can get your circulation going at eight water treading stations and an arm bath. The Water Treading Stations Rally connects all these locations. Along the way, you’ll learn lots of interesting facts about the pillars of Kneipp therapy. Once you’ve filled your stamp booklet, you can collect the Water Treading Stations Rally badge from our Tourist Information Centre.

Our tip: Although the challenge is designed to be physically active, it’s all about having fun. Make sure you allow plenty of time to ‘Kneipp’ at each of the individual stations. Especially on a hiking tour, water treading provides a soothing and invigorating experience for your feet.

The City and Hiking Challenge

Set off on an exciting city and walking challenge with your children! With this lovingly designed activity booklet, you’ll embark on an entertaining journey of discovery through Bad Lauterberg and its beautiful surroundings. Along the way, you’ll come across mysterious places, stunning views and fascinating stories. Anyone who looks closely and answers the questions correctly will receive a certificate and a little surprise at the end.

Our tip: Our tip for families: Feel free to split the tour into several stages. That way, you’ll have time to marvel at the sights, play and stop for a bite to eat. And for young stamp hunters, the tour is doubly worthwhile: you can collect some of the Harz Hiking Pin stamps along the way!

The Lost Magic Ring

Iron was smelted at the historic Königshütte in Bad Lauterberg for over 250 years. Today, the sprawling site with its impressive buildings is a place full of stories – and secrets. Susie Salas also has a special connection to this place: her grandparents once lived at the smelter, and as a child she spent many unforgettable hours there. She even celebrated her birthday on the site once – a day she remembers well, because something strange happened: she lost her precious ring.
Her grandfather had told her that the ring had magical powers and could grant wishes. But it has been missing ever since that day – for over 50 years now. As Susie has never been able to find it herself, she is now asking the Brocken Gang for help.

You can pick up the free puzzle booklet for the ‘The Lost Magic Ring’ tour at the Bad Lauterberg Tourist Information Centre, as well as on site at the Königshütte during guided tour times. Whether you actually find the ring in the end – and whether it’s the real magic ring – you’ll only find out if you set off on the hunt for clues yourself!

Dwarf Friedel has recently started roaming our city and its forests. It is said that he has almost 20 favorite places where you can meet him, but nobody knows for sure. That’s why only his approximate locations are marked on the city map.

If you are lucky enough to spot Friedel, he will show you a QR code that you can use to listen to his exciting stories on your cell phone. Our insider tip: You will definitely meet Friedel at 8 stations in the spa gardens. So, get walking right away!

Tip for your parents: free guided dwarf hikes take place every month. The dwarf trail is currently still under construction and will be completed by Easter 2026.
