Königshütte industrial monument
From the foundry to the movie set
The Königshütte in Bad Lauterberg in the Harz Mountains, now an industrial monument, was built as an ironworks with foundry operations in 1733. A few of the smelter buildings date back to the first construction period around 1733, while other buildings that are still prominent today date back to the early 19th century. The historic smelting area was partially removed or obstructed in the course of privatization at the end of the 19th century. The industrial monument has been recognized as a “cultural monument of national importance” since October 2014.
The Förderkreis Königshütte offers guided tours of the ensemble and the Südharzer Eisenhüttenmuseum and provides insights into the machine factory with functioning machine tools, some with transmission drive, and the historic foundry with the cupola furnaces.
Today, the Königshütte serves as a backdrop for special events and as a filming location for numerous movies, e.g. “Berlin Berlin” with Felicitas Woll.
